Abstract

The development of telecommunication industry and the use of internet allow cyber media to grow bigger while putting print media out of commission in the process. Not only about the format, there are also shifts in media’s organizational aspect as well as its business model. Countless new media have emerged, each with their own distinct forms to offer and these media do not see number of clicks as their primary benchmark to readership. These alternative media are believed to balance out media ecosystem. One of those alternative media in Indonesia is Vice Indonesia. It offers new variety among Indonesia’s speed-driven media landscape. Therefore, a research is required to figure out whether Vice Indonesia succeeds as an alternative media. The research was conducted under the framework of qualitative approach. Data is collected from inverview that acts as primary data, while literature review and document study act as secondary data. The interview is conducted to Ardyan M. Erlangga as Vice Indonesia’s managing editor. Result shows that Vice Indonesia succeeds as an alternative media. It is because Vice Indonesia’s communication strategy is different from what mainstream media used to do.
