Abstract

Pengunaan kertas yang biasanya hanya digunakan sekali mengakibatkan menumpuknya jumlah limbah kertas. Salah satu upaya yang dilakukan pemerintah dalam menangani hal tersebut adalah dengan mendorong perindustrian yang bergerak dalam mendaur ulang kertas. Salah satu hal yang bisa dibuat dari hal tersebut adalah kertas kraft. Kertas kraft yang diolah menjadi honeycomb paperboard bisa digunakan dalam komposit sandwich. Honeycomb paperboard pada komposit sandwich biasanya digabungkan dengan gypsum dan diaplikasikan sebagai dinding pembatas ruangan dengan tujuan agar ruangan kedap suara. Semakin tebal honeycomb paperboard yang ada maka semakin baik hasil kekedapan suaranya. Selain kedap suara, dinding pembatas ruangan yang menggunakan komposit sandwich berbahan honeycomb paperboard dan gypsum juga memiliki kekuatan untuk menahan bending. Pada penelitian ini akan dilihat seberapa besar kekuatan bending dari komposit sandwich tersebut berdasarkan ketebalan honeycomb paperboard yang digunakan dan akan dilihat sandwich dengan ketebalan berapa yang paling optimal. Variasi ketebalan yang digunakan adalah sandwich dengan ketebalan 60 mm, 100 mm dan 140 mm. Peneliti juga akan menambahkan styrofoam kedalam sel honeycomb untuk melihat apakah styrofoam mempengaruhi kekuatan material. Karena ingin mengetahui kuat bending material maka penelitian ini melakukan analisa terhadap karakteristik lentur dari komposit sandwich berbahan honeycomb paperboard dan gypsum. Karakteristik lentur yang dimaksud adalah nilai bending stress, kekakuan lentur dan modulus geser material. Hasil perhitungan didapat bahwa komposit sandwich dengan ketebalan 100 mm memiliki nilai karakteristik lentur yang paling optimal dengan nilai bending stress sebesar 1,23 MPa, kekakuan lentur sebesar 854,3 N.m2 dan modulus geser sebesar 16,45 MPa. Sedangkan untuk sandwich dengan tambahan styrofoam didapati bahwa styrofoam mempengaruhi penurunan nilai bending stress dan kenaikan nilai kekakuan lentur sedangkan tidak mempengaruhi nilai modulus geser. / The use of paper, which is usually only used once, has caused an accumulation of paper waste. One of the efforts made by the government in dealing this situation is to encourage industries that are engaged in paper recycling. One of the things that can be made from it is kraft paper. Kraft paper that is processed into honeycomb paperboard can be used in composite sandwich. Honeycomb paperboard in a composite sandwich panel is usually combined with gypsum and applied as a room divider wall with the intention of soundproof. The thicker the honeycomb paperboard, the better the soundproofing results. Besides that, the room divider wall that uses a composite sandwich made from honeycomb paperboard and gypsum also has the strength to withstand bending. This study examined bending strength of the composite sandwich based on the thickness of the honeycomb paperboard, and the optimal sandwich thickness was determined. The thickness of sandwich panels vary from 60 mm, 100 mm and 140 mm. Researcher also added styrofoam into the honeycomb cells to see if styrofoam affected the strength of the material. Researcher wanted to know the bending strength of the material, so, this study analyzed the flexural properties of composite sandwich made of honeycomb paperboard and gypsum. The flexural properties were bending stress, flexural stiffness and shear modulus of the material. The calculation results showed that the composite sandwich with a thickness of 100 mm had the most optimal flexural properties value with a bending stress of 1.23 MPa, a flexural stiffness of 854.3 N.m2 and a shear modulus of 16.45 MPa. Meanwhile, the addition of styrofoam to the sandwich panel was found out to decrease the bending stress value and the increase of the flexural stiffness while it did not affect the value of shear modulus.
