Abstract

Green mussel (Perna viridis), blood cockle (Anadara granosa), and giant mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) are marine biota which frequently accumulate heavy metals due to their increasingly polluted habitats. The yeast from industrial waste insulation with ES9.3, ES9.4, and ES10.2 codes are able to remediate heavy metals. This study aims to find the best consortium from that three isolates to then compare their ability with Saccharomyces cerevisiae in reducing heavy metals of green mussel, blood cockle, and giant mangrove crabs. The analysis method use Compeletely Randomized Design one factorial with 11 levels variation. Samples were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The results showed that green mussel, blood cockle, and giant mangrove crab contains Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, and Pb which are still below the threshold. After being treated with yeast, the best consortium in reducing heavy metals in the sample was the consortium ES9.3, ES9.4, and ES10.2 (33.33%: 33.33%: 33.33%) with average of Fe and Zn overall is 91.21%. In Mg metal, the consortium of yeasts ES9.3 and ES10.2 (33.33%: 66.66%) was the best consortium with average reduction is 98.34%. S. cerevisiae as comparative cultures showed lower results than the best consortium and other consortiums in reducing Fe, Zn, and Mg. The percentage of S. cerevisiae in reducing heavy metals has an overall average value is 79.23% in all three metals and marine biota samples.
