Abstract

This is controlled by a series of hormones. A few days before the onset of menstruation there is a collection of symptoms called pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), the prevalence of pre-menstrual syndrome is found to be higher in unmarried women 75% of women experience some of recurrent symptoms in PMS, in 20-40& of women this can cause mental disabilities or physical at some degree, and caused severe difficulties in 5% of them. Many factors can influence the occurrence of pre-menstrual syndrome, which one of the factor is physical activity which can trigger various hormones so that can reduce the symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome so that can be used as an effective first-line treatment. Because physical activity has been shown to have many benefits, Although pre-menstrual syndrome is often associated with physical activity, there is no data regarding the relationship between these two variables in medical students in Indonesia. Method: This study used a cross-sectional study design with an unpaired categorical comparative analytic method with a minimum number of 117 respondents. This research was conducted by filling out a questionnaire by the student of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pelita Harapan as the research population. Data analysis of the research result will be processed using Microsoft Excel application program and SPSS 25.0 program with the Chi-square statistical test method. Result: This research was conducted on 127 female respondents, then analyzed using the Chi Square test and obtained p value = 0.000 and Odd Ratio = 0.110 with 95% CI 0.049-0.249. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between doing physical activity and the severity of pre-menstrual syndrome in students at Faculty of Medicine Pelita Harapan University.
