Abstract

Data kemudian diolah menggunakan program Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) versi 26 dengan Uji Kruskal-Wallis. / Background: Oral health held a big role in creating overall human body’s health. Oral cavity's disease that has the highest number of occurrences up to 66% is the recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) or canker sore. RAS is an inflammation in the oral mucous that causes discomfort. Stress is the individual response in facing stressor and has been used in numerous population based studies due to its correlation with health problems all around the world. Study about the association between stress level and incidence of RAS in Indonesia is still limited. Aim: To determine the relationship between the stress level and the incidence of recurrent aphthous stomatitis in medical students of Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. Method: This study uses a cross sectional study design with 56 subjects from medical students of Pelita Harapan University year of 2019 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection will be carried out in January 2021 until March 2021. Obtained data will then be processed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program v.26 with Kruskal Wallis test. Result: The stress level percentages out of 56 subjects are as follows, 8,93% (10 subjects) are experiencing stress that is considered as mild stress, 86,71% (48 subjects) are having moderate stress, and 5,36% (5 subjects) are proven to have experienced severe stress. 54 (96,43%) subjects are known to have history of RAS with the frequency of incidence of once a months in 8 (14,28%) subjects, once in three months in 16 (28,57%) subjects, once in six months in 8 (14,28%) subjects, once a year in 6 (10,71%) subjects, and more than one year period of time in 3 (5,36%) subjects. According to the hypothesis test of Chi Square, the result obtained is proven to be significant with p value of 0,005 (OR 0,235 and 95% CI 0,03 – 2,09). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the stress level and the frequency incidence of recurrent aphthous stomatitis in medical students of Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University with p value < 0,05 (0,001).
