Abstract

In facilitating the students learning, English teachers can apply the principles of a facilitator such as being knowledgeable in the material, being mobile as in taking the time to go to every student as well as being attentive to each individual student's needs, being authentic of themselves and in giving feedback to students, and lastly being communicative by giving clear instructions as to what is needed to be accomplished. Jesus Himself was a facilitator that He provided hands-on experience in learning to His disciples with power, authority, and clear instructions. He also led people to God. Likewise, Christian English teachers as facilitators should provide engaging learning that is mainly focused on the students’ development. This study aims to elaborate the implementation of teacher as a facilitator in the ways, obstacles, and impacts. The method is qualitative descriptive with the data taken from the researcher’s second practicum portfolio which are professional reflection, observation reflection, teaching reflection, and students’ evaluation form. The result of this study shows that Christian teachers can implement the role of facilitator, including in English classrooms. And the researcher suggests English teachers at the secondary level, especially in online context apply the principle of a facilitator. Keywords: Christian teachers, Online learning, Teacher as facilitator / Dalam memfasilitasi pembelajaran siswa, guru bahasa Inggris dapat menerapkan prinsip-prinsip fasilitator seperti menguasai materi, meluangkan waktu untuk menemui setiap siswa dengan memperhatikan kebutuhan setiap siswa, bersikap autentik dalam memberikan umpan balik kepada siswa, dan menjadi komunikatif dengan memberikan instruksi yang jelas tentang apa yang perlu dicapai. Yesus sendiri adalah fasilitator yang memberikan pengalaman langsung dalam belajar kepada murid-murid-Nya dengan kuasa, otoritas, dan instruksi yang jelas. Dia juga memimpin orang-orang kepada Tuhan. Demikian pula, guru bahasa Inggris Kristen sebagai fasilitator harus memberikan pembelajaran yang menarik dan berfokus pada perkembangan siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengelaborasi implementasi guru sebagai fasilitator dalam cara, hambatan, dan dampaknya. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan data yang diambil dari portofolio praktikum kedua peneliti yaitu refleksi profesional, refleksi observasi, refleksi mengajar, dan formulir evaluasi siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru Kristen dapat menerapkan peran fasilitator, termasuk di kelas bahasa Inggris. Dan peneliti menyarankan guru bahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah menengah, terutama dalam konteks online untuk menerapkan prinsip fasilitator.
