Abstract

/Black Lives Matter is a movement that emerged as a result of the murder of a black citizen named Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. The murder sparked international outrage, spearheaded by the three founders of the Black Lives Matter movement, namely Alicia Garza, Opal Tommeti, and Patrisse Khan Cullors by uploading the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter to social media. This movement voiced the discriminatory treatment and police brutality faced by black people in everyday life. The issue of racism against black people should have been considered resolved in 1964 when the Civil Rights Act passed which ended discrimination against black races. But in the 21st century, the Black Lives Matter movement emerged as a movement that aims to end discrimination against the black race. This study was made to describe what Black Lives Matter is and its effect on global racism resistance. This study uses Liberalism theory as a perspective in describing Black Lives Matter and its influence on global racism resistance and uses narrative analysis method in providing various events related to Black Lives Matter using plot. Based on the observations made, Black Lives Matter has not had a significant influence in fighting the issue of racism faced by the black race because the institutional discrimination that Black Lives Matter wants to eliminate cannot be proven in America. Black Lives Matter is simply an awareness that racism is still inherent in everyday life and influences other movements against racism globally through protests.
