Abstract

Diplomasi budaya termasuk dalam kategori soft power dikarenakan menggunakan ciri khas dan identitas negara untuk mempromosikan nilai budaya suatu negara kepada masyarakat dunia. Hal itu yang bisa menjadi power untuk mempengaruhi sebuah praktek diplomasi. Salah satu diplomasi budaya yang cukup besar pengaruhnya terhadap kerjasama Amerika Serikat dan Republik Rakyat Tiongkok (RRT) adalah diplomasi olahraga basket. Olahraga yang pada awalnya hanya diartikan sebagai suatu pertandingan atau permainan namun karena perkembangan globalisasi, olahraga bisa menjadi sebuah aspek penting dalam diplomasi hubungan internasional. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk mengetahui adanya penggunaan diplomasi olahraga basket oleh Amerika Serikat dalam hubungan kerja sama dengan Republik Rakyat Tiongkok (RRT), dan mengetahui bentuk dukungan dari aktor non-negara dalam diplomasi olahraga basket. Penulis akan menjawab pertanyaan penelitian menggunakan metodologi penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dan dengan menggunakan sumber data sekunder, serta menggunakan teori Pluralisme yang merupakan cabang dari teori Liberalisme dan menggunakan konsep multi track diplomacy. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan sumber buku, jurnal, dan beberapa artikel. Pada akhirnya hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan tentang sejarah perkembangan penggunaan diplomasi basket oleh Amerika Serikat terhadap Tiongkok dan peran dari aktor non-negara dalam hubungan kerja sama kedua negara. / Cultural diplomacy is included in the soft power category because it uses the characteristics and identity of the country to promote the cultural values of a country to the world community. This can be a power to influence the practice of diplomacy. One of the cultural diplomacy that has a significant impact on the cooperation between the United States and the People's Republic of China is basketball diplomacy. At first, sport was only defined as a match or game, but due to the development of globalization, sport can become an important aspect of diplomacy in international relations. The purpose of this thesis is to find out the use of basketball diplomacy by the United States in cooperative relations with the People's Republic of China (PRC), and to find out the forms of support from non-state actors in basketball diplomacy. The author will answer research questions using descriptive qualitative research methodology and by using secondary data sources, as well as using the theory of Pluralism which is a branch of Liberalism theory and uses the concept of multi-track diplomacy. Data collection was carried out using books, journals, and several articles as sources. In the end, the results of this study show the historical development of the use of basketball diplomacy by the United States against China and the role of non-state actors in the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
