Abstract

Popularitas cryptocurrency telah tumbuh di era pandemi dan telah mengubah cara orang memandang ekonomi. Nilainya yang mudah berubah sesuai dengan investasi yang beresiko karena orang dapat memperoleh keuntungan dalam hitungan menit. Selain itu, perusahaan besar dan pemerintah juga menggunakannya untuk meningkatkan nilai pasar atau tingkat keandalan mereka. Era pasar digital ini berkembang begitu cepat sehingga kita harus bertanya-tanya, apakah ini masa depan ekonomi? Untuk memberikan pengetahuan singkat, cryptocurrency adalah jenis mata uang yang dipertukarkan secara digital, yang berarti lebih banyak anonimitas dan keamanan. Cryptocurrency juga disukai oleh orang-orang karena sikap pasarnya yang terdesentralisasi yang berarti pemerintah tidak dapat mengintervensi nilainya. Pemerintah hanya dapat melegalkan atau membatasi metode memperoleh atau memperdagangkan mata uang kripto di tempat mereka. Misalnya, Amerika Serikat mengizinkan perdagangan mata uang kripto tetapi masih tidak melihatnya sebagai alat pembayaran yang sah, sedangkan pemerintah Cina mencegah perolehan dan perdagangan mata uang kripto sepenuhnya dan menciptakan mata uang digital mereka sendiri yang disebut renminbi digital atau RMB. Indonesia, di sisi lain, belum secara khusus menerima atau menolak penggunaan cryptocurrency, namun masyarakat di Indonesia telah memperdagangkan cryptocurrency secara efektif dan percaya bahwa cryptocurrency dapat menjadi masa depan ekonomi, tanpa mempermasalahkan tingkat volatilitasnya. Kesimpulannya, cryptocurrency menjadi masa depan ekonomi dunia sangat mungkin. Namun, penelitian lebih lanjut masih diperlukan karena masih belum banyak pengetahuan yang diperoleh tentang bagaimana nilai cryptocurrency bekerja dan bagaimana pola bullish dan bearish menentukan pasar cryptocurrency secara umum. Secara keseluruhan, responden survei yang dilakukan dalam tesis ini menyimpulkan bahwa mereka sedikit setuju bahwa cryptocurrency adalah masa depan ekonomi dunia, tetapi mereka terlalu khawatir tentang tingkat volatilitas cryptocurrency. / Cryptocurrency’s popularity has been growing in the pandemic era and it has changed how people view the economy. Its volatile value suits risk investment perfectly as people can earn profit in minutes. Moreover, big companies and governments also use them to boost their market value or their reliability. This digital market era is growing so fast that we should wonder, is this the future of the economy? To give a brief knowledge, cryptocurrency is a type of currency that is exchanged digitally, meaning more anonymity and security. Cryptocurrency also is liked by people due to their decentralized market stance meaning the government could not intervene with their value. Government could only legalize or restrict the method of acquiring or trading cryptocurrency in their soil. For example, the United States allows the trading of cryptocurrency but still does not view it as legal tender, whereas the Chinese government prevents the acquiring and trading of cryptocurrency entirely and created their own digital currency called digital renminbi or RMB. Indonesia, on the other hand, has not specifically accepted or declined the use of cryptocurrency, however the people in Indonesia have traded cryptocurrency effectively and believe that cryptocurrency can be the future of the economy, without making a case of its volatility rate. In conclusion, cryptocurrency becoming the future of the world economy is very possible. However, more research is still needed as there is still not much knowledge that has been acquired about how the cryptocurrency value works and how the bullish and bearish pattern determine the cryptocurrency market in general. Overall, the respondents of the survey done in this thesis have concluded that they slightly agree that cryptocurrency is the future of the world economy, but they are too concerned about the volatility rate of the cryptocurrency.
