Abstract

Walau dua puluh tiga tahun telah berlalu, peristiwa kerusuhan Mei 1998 meninggalkan trauma dan ketakutan pada para korban nya hingga saat ini sehingga hal ini akhirnya menyebabkan perubahan pandangan dan perilaku etnis Tionghoa dalam berelasi dengan etnis Pribumi. Berdasarkan penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya, ditemukan bahwa forgiveness dapat meningkatkan kecenderungan prososial individu serta mampu menanggulangi trauma, khususnya pada kasus trauma kekerasan rasial. Maka dari itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui gambaran forgiveness pada para korban langsung kerusuhan Mei 1998 mengingat pentingnya relasi yang baik antar etnis di negara Indonesia yang memiliki beragam etnis yang berbeda-beda. Penelitian ini berbentuk studi kasus dengan metode pengumpulan data berupa wawancara yang dilaksanakan terhadap tiga orang responden yang merupakan korban pada kerusuhan Mei 1998. Sebelum pengambilan data, peneliti mengajukan uji etik kepada KPIN dan menyelenggarakan wawancara dengan pertanyaan yang telah disetujui sebelumnya. Data yang didapat pada wawancara lalu diolah dengan menggunakan metode thematic analysis, dan validitas nya diuji melalui diskusi dengan dosen pembimbing. Dari hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa ketiga responden memiliki tekad untuk mengampuni para pelaku dan tidak menyalahkan etnis Pribumi atas kerusuhan yang terjadi, walau begitu hingga saat ini masih terdapat perubahan perasaan dan perilaku dari etnis Tionghoa terhadap etnis Pribumi akibat peristiwa kerusuhan Mei 1998. / Twenty three years has passed from the May 1998 riot in Indonesia. Yet in the present day, its victims; The Chinese-Indonesians, still suffers from fear and trauma which led to their changes in perspective and behaviour towards the Indigenous ethnic of Indonesia. On previous studies, forgiveness was proven able to increase prosocial tendencies and reduce trauma, especially on cases with racial violence trauma. Therefore, this study was conducted to be able to picture the direct victim’s forgiveness towards the Indigenous ethnic, considering the importance of interethnic relations in Indonesia which has a lot of different ethnicity. This research is a case study based on interviews with three Chinese-Indonesian victims of the May 1998 riot. After getting an ethical clearance from KPIN, interviews were done and the results were analyzed using the thematic analysis whilst the validity was proven by discussing the results with writer’s lecturer. The results show that all three participants have determination to forgive the offenders and they did not blame the Indigenous people for the riot. Even so, they admit of having changed feelings and behaviour towards the Indigenous people because of the May 1998 riot.
