Abstract

The trend of changing gender role expectations that occurred in the last few decades slowly began to change views or beliefs about the characteristics that are considered important in partners. This study is done to explore the changes by comparing data collected from two generations, namely the senior group (n = 96) and the younger group (n = 163). The results of the study showed that based on gender differences, there was no significant difference between the senior group and the younger group in the preference of a life partner. However, based on the time of marriage, there was a significant increase in the expectations of the young group for the characteristics of maintaining order, being ambitious, and having good intellectual and financial prospects. The results of the interaction between gender differences and the time of marriage show a significant difference in the importance of the characteristics of similarity in education level as well as good education and intelligence.
