Abstract

Berdasarkan dimensi dalam mattering to peers, dukungan yang diberikan dari teman sebaya (importance) ternyata memiliki korelasi yang paling kuat dengan tingkat kesepian yang dialami (r(277) = -.694**, p = .000)./Adult individuals who experience gaps in relationships with their peers, can make them experience loneliness. Previous research has found that self-perception that they were important to their peers can be a predictor of loneliness levels. However, there have been no similar studies examining emerging adulthood populations in Indonesia. In fact, the level of loneliness in emerging adulthood in Indonesia tends to be high. This study aims to find out the relationship of mattering to peers with loneliness in emerging adulthood in Indonesia. This quantitative research uses the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 (UCLA-LS3) and The Mattering Index (MI) as research instruments. Participants in the study numbered 277 people aged 18-25 years. The results showed that most participants felt lonely (51.3%) and had a significant negative relationship with the perception that they were important to their peers (r(277) = -.704**, p = .000). Based on dimensions in mattering to peers, the support provided from peers (importance) was found to have the strongest correlation with the level of loneliness experienced (r(277) = -.694**, p = .000).
