Abstract

Kecemasan komunikasi antabudaya merupakan suatu fenomena yang terjadi pada setiap individu hanya saja tingkat kecemasannya berbeda-beda antara individu satu dengan yang lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana deskripsi kecemasan komunikasi antar budaya pada mahasiswa pengungsi asal Afghanistan di Asrama Universitas Pelita Harapan Karawaci. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara dan studi pustaka. Keabsahan data dilakukan dengan triangulasi sumber dan member check. Data dianalisa dengan teknik Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah Kecemasan komunikasi yang di rasakan mahasiswa pengungsi asal Afghanistan bersifat situasional (Situational Communication Apprehension). Mereka mengalami kecemasan berkomunikasi hanya pada saat pertama kali tiba di Indonesia, dan beberapa dari mereka merasa cemas karena merasa kehilangan identitasnya saat masuk ke Indonesia secara illegal. Mereka juga merasakan adanya pandangan-pandangan negatif dari orang-orang terhadap mereka sebagai pengungsi (refugee) yang berasal dari Afghanistan karena latar belakang negara asalnya. Rasa cemas dan takut juga mereka rasakan dalam ketidakpastian dan penantian untuk segera ditempatkan di negara permanen. Selebihnya, mereka dapat bersikap positif dan beradaptasi dengan baik sehingg mereka merasa di terima oleh orang-orang Indonesia khususnya komunitas UPH. / Intercultural communication apprehension is a phenomenon that occurs within every individual; however, level of anxiety varies from one individual to another. This study aims to determine how the description of intercultural communication apprehension in Afghanistan refugee students at Dormitory in the Pelita Harapan University Karawaci. This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected by interview and literature study. The validity of the data is obtained by triangulation of sources and member check. The data were analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis technique. The result of this study is that the communication apprehension felt by Afghan refugee students is situational (situational communication apprehension). They experience communication anxiety only when they first arrive in Indonesia, and some of them feel anxious because they feel they have lost their identity when entering Indonesia illegally. They also feel that there are negative views from people towards them as refugees who come from Afghanistan because of their country background. They also feel fear and anxious in uncertainty and waiting to be immediately placed in a permanent country. The rest, they can be positive and adapt very well so that they feel accepted by Indonesian people, especially the UPH community.
