Abstract
University students use social media to make friends, release pressure, and learn things. However, several studies have found that excessive use of social media is associated with depression, anxiety, lifestyle, and academic achievement of university students. This can lead to aspects of the subjective well-being of students. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the intensity of social media use and subjective well-being of university students in JABODETABEK. This quantitative survey study uses the Social Networking Activity Intensity Scale (SNAIS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE), on 178 students in JABODETABEK. The results showed that there was a relationship between the intensity of social media use and life satisfaction (r_s = .329, p < .001) and positive affect (r_s = .358, p < .001) on university students in JABODETABEK. Then, there is also no relationship between the intensity of social media use and negative affect on university students in JABODETABEK (r_s = .085, p = n.s).
