Abstract

Buku Folklore Storybook merupakan salah satu buku yang berisikan cerita rakyat yang didedikasikan untuk anak-anak. Di dalam buku ini terdapat beberapa permasalahan di dalam bidang desain yang perlu mendapatkan perhatian khusus. Masalah tersebut terdapat pada layout yang kurang mendukung penyusunan text dan ilustrasi, tipografi dengan tingkat readability yang rendah untuk dijadikan body text, ilustrasi yang kurang mendukung penggambaran isi cerita, dan banyaknya elemen yang ingin ditonjolkan pada cover buku sehingga cover kurang terlihat penekanannya. Desain alternatif buku Folklore Storybook dilakukan dengan memberikan perubahan pada layout, ilustrasi, tipografi, dan cover buku. Desain alternatif dibuat berdasarkan analisis target buku ini, yaitu anak-anak. Perubahan layout dilakukan agar hiearki pada buku dapat menjadi lebih teratur, untuk mengetahui alur cerita pada buku. Font dengan tingkat readability yang tinggi dapat mempermudah anak-anak untuk membaca dan mengenal karakter font tersebut. Penggunaan ilustrasi yang menarik serta elemen interaktif membuat anak-anak menjadi tertarik untuk membaca buku tersebut berulang-ulang, sehingga pesan dari cerita dapat tertanam. Pada bagian cover, hanya dibuat beberapa elemen yang menonjol sehingga tidak semua elemen bertabrakan satu dengan yang lain, sehingga fokus utama dapat terlihat./ Folklore Storybook is one of the book that tells about folklore stories for childrens. In this book, there are some problems, especially in design that need particular attention. The issues are less supported layout in organizing text and illustration, low readability typography in the body text, less supported illustration in describing the story content, and there are too many dominating element in the book’s cover which makes the book's cover doesn't have the emphasizing. The alternative design for Folklore Storybook will done by giving alternative design to the layout, illustration, typography, and the book cover. The alternative design is made according to book’s target analysis, which is children. The layout will be revise so the hiearchy of the book will become more organized and can guide the audience to understand the plot of the story. The typography will be replaced by high readability font, that can make children easier to read and know the font’s character. The using of attractive illustration with interactive element makes children become more interested to read the book repeatedly, so that the moral of story can be embedded. In the cover, some element will be emphasized so that not all of the elements crossed for one another and the primary focus can be seen.
