Abstract

Bitumen adalah material utama dalam konstruksi perkerasan jalan, dimana aspal merupakan campuran bitumen, agregat, dan material lainnya. Pengembangan dan inovasi dalam meningkatkan performa aspal kerap dilakukan, salah satunya dengan modifikasi polimer. Modifikasi polimer paling umum ialah polymer modified bitumen (PMB) dan polymer modified asphalt (PMA) dimana perbedaannya adalah pada metode penambahan polimernya. Penelitian terdahulu menunjukkan perbedaan kecepatan pembebanan (loading speed) mempengaruhi kekuatan campuran aspal secara signifikan, dimana metode pengujian semi-circular bending (SCB) dapat mengidentifikasi sifat mekanis (terutama ketahanan retak) campuran aspal yang cocok untuk penelitian ini. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu meninjau pengaruh variasi loading speed terhadap benda uji polimer (PMB dan PMA) dengan metode pengujian SCB. Penelitian dimulai dengan pengujian karakteristik material (bitumen dan agregat) dan penentuan kadar aspal optimum dengan pengujian marshall yang mana adalah sebesar 6%. HMA digunakan untuk pembuatan seluruh benda uji, yang dikelompokkan menjadi sampel kontrol, PMA (4%, 5%, dan 6%), dan PMB. Pengujian SCB dilakukan menggunakan Universal Testing Machine (UTM) dengan 3 loading speed yang berbeda (2.5, 5, dan 10 mm/min). Pengolahan data menghasilkan parameter sifat mekanis benda uji (maximum stress, fracture energy, fracture toughness, flexibility index, dan cracking resistance index). Rangkuman dan visualisasi data menunjukkan loading speed sangat mempengaruhi hasil uji SCB dimana nilai beban maksimum dan parameter lainnya meningkat dengan kenaikan loading speed. Pada loading speed 2.5 mm/min dan 5 mm/min, terlihat tren sampel PMA 5% unggul pada nilai fracture toughness dan maximum tensile strength, dimana sampel PMB unggul pada flexibility index, fracture energy, dan cracking resistance index. Pada loading speed 10 mm/min, PMB unggul pada seluruh parameter sifat mekanis. Untuk PMA, kadar polimer optimum didapatkan senilai 5% dengan nilai paling besar pada semua loading speed. / Bitumen is the main component in road pavement construction, where asphalt is a mixture of bitumen, aggregate, and other materials. Developments and innovations in improving asphalt performance are often carried out, one of which is through polymer modification. The most common polymer modifications are polymer modified bitumen (PMB) and polymer modified asphalt (PMA) where the difference is in the method of adding the polymer. Previous studies have shown that the difference in loading speed during testing significantly affects the strength of the asphalt mixture. The semi-circular bending (SCB) test method is suitable to identify the mechanical properties (especially crack resistance) of the asphalt mixture which is well suited for this research. The study began with testing the characteristics of the material (bitumen and aggregate) and determining the optimum asphalt content with the Marshall test which was 6%. HMA was used for the manufacture all specimens, which were grouped into control samples, PMA (4%, 5%, and 6%), and PMB. SCB testing was carried out using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) with 3 different loading speeds (2.5, 5, and 10 mm/min). Data processing produced parameters of the mechanical properties of the test object (maximum stress, fracture energy, fracture toughness, flexibility index, and cracking resistance index). The summary and visualization of data shows that loading speed greatly affected the results of the SCB test where both the maximum load and other parameters increased with the amplified loading speed. At loading speed of 2.5 mm/min and 5 mm/min, the trend of PMA samples with 5% polymer content was superior in fracture toughness and maximum tensile strength, where PMB samples excelled in flexibility index, fracture energy, and cracking resistance index. At a loading speed of 10 mm/min, PMB excelled in all parameters of mechanical properties. For PMA, the optimum polymer content was found to be 5% with the largest value at all loading speeds.
