Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest rate of HIV/AIDS. In Indonesia, the province that has highest HIV/AIDS rate is Papua. There were approximately 19.202 people in Papua that are detected as positive HIV/AIDS. This reality causes Non-Governmental Organization like World Relief feels compelled to raise the awareness of HIV/AIDS in Papua. The purpose of this research is to find out the role of World Relief through their “Mobilizing for Life: Protecting Papua” program. This research will be discussing the objectives of the program, the targets of the program, the challenges of the program and the result of the program. Among all the targets that set by World Relief through their “Mobilizing for Life: Protecting Papua” program, each of the target is almost completed. This research will study the aspects that make those targets achieved. In this research, I will also be talking about the government’s role that is still not effective according to my point of view./ Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara dengan tingkat laju HIV/AIDS tertinggi. Provinsi di Indonesia yang memiliki laju HIV/AIDS tertinggi adalah Papua. Diperkirakan ada 19.202 yang terdeteksi positive terjangkit HIV/AIDS di Papua. Hal ini membuat organisasi non-pemerintahan seperti World Relief tergerak untuk meningkatkan kesadaran akan HIV/AIDS di Papua. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat peran World Relief melalui program “Mobilizing for Life: Protecting Papua” dalam meningkatkan kesadaran akan HIV/AIDS di Papua. Penelitian ini akan membahas tujuan dari program tersebut, target yang ingin dicapai dalam program tersebut, tantangan yang dihadapi dalam menjalankan program tersebut dan hasil akhir dari program tersebut. Dari beberapa target yang ingin dicapai oleh World Relief melalui program “Mobilizing for Life: Protecting Papua”, hampir seluruh target tercapai. Penelitian ini akan membahas hal-hal apa saja yang membuat target-target itu tercapai. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis juga akan membahas peran pemerintah Indonesia yang masih dianggap kurang.
