Abstract

Di Indonesia, semakin banyak perguruan tinggi yang berdiri baik Perguruan Tinggi Negeri maupun Swasta sehingga semakin banyak pilihan bagi siswa SMA untuk melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang perguruan tinggi. Oleh karena itu, untuk menarik minat siswa agar untuk melanjutkan pendidikan ke perguruan tinggi tertentu, institusi harus memiliki pengetahuan akan keinginan serta kebutuhan siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pilihan siswa untuk melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang perguruan tinggi. Variabel yang akan diuji hubungannya dengan perguruan tinggi yang dipilih siswa adalah karakteristik universitas, ekonomi, eksternal, dan pemasaran, serta terdapat faktor penentu lain seperti jurusan yang diambil (IPA/IPS), jenis kelamin, dan domisili. Penelitian dilakukan dengan faktor penentu lain, dan menggunakan uji korelasi Chi-square uji beda Mann-Whitney untuk melihat jawaban siswa yang memilih perguruan tinggi negeri dan swasta. Nilai alpha yang digunakan adalah 0.05. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner kepada siswa/i SMA kelas 12. Hasil dari penelitian adalah terdapat variabel dengan nilai rata-rata tertinggi (4.451) yaitu variabel ekonomi, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa menganggap variabel ekonomi merupakan variabel yang terpenting dalam menentukan pilihan, pada posisi kedua adalah karakteristik perguruan tinggi, kemudian variabel pemasaran, dan variabel dengan nilai rata-rata paling rendah adalah variabel eksternal. Faktor lainnya yang terbukti menggunakan uji chi-square memiliki pengaruh terhadap pilihan perguruan tinggi adalah domisili siswa. Uji beda Mann-Whitney tidak menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara jawaban siswa yang memilih perguruan tinggi negeri maupun perguruan tinggi swasta. / In Indonesia, there are a lot of new universities, both public and private universities, so that there are more choices for high school students to continue their study to the next step in university. To attract students into getting to a certain university, institutions need to know the student’s needs and desire. The objective of this research is to know the factors that affect the student’s choice in deciding university to continue their study. The variabels that will be tested to see the correlation with student’s choice in deciding university are university’s charactheristic, economy, external, and marketing and there are other factors such as their high school major (science/social), gender, and domicile. The research will be done by using Chi-Square Correlation test for the other factors, Mann-Whitney test is used to compare the answers between students that chose public university or private university. Alpha score that is used in this reasearch is 0.05. The data is collected by distributing questionnaires to 12 grade students. The result of the research shows that a variable with the greatest mean (4.451) is economy, this also show that the student consider this variablel as the most important variabel to choose a university. The second variable that has the second greatest mean is university characteristics, followed by marketing, and in the variable that has the lowest mean is external. The other factors that has an affect for student in choosing university is domisile, this is proven by chi-square test Mann-Whitney test doesn’t show any significant difference between the students who chose public university and the students that chose private university.
