Abstract

Indonesia has a fairly extensive plantation and agricultural area, this makes Indonesia one of the largest agricultural countries in the world. Oil palm plantations are a rapidly growing plantation sector from various types of agriculture and plantations in Indonesia and the use of oil palm in the industrial sector is also increasing, so the amount of palm oil waste has increased. There is an innovation to overcome this, namely using palm oil shell waste as a substitute for coarse aggregate in the manufacture of lightweight concrete. Oil palm shells have an oil layer that will affect the compressive strength of concrete, so it is necessary to carry out a treatment process for oil palm shells. This study aims to see the results of the compressive strength of palm shell concrete based on the treatment applied. Oil palm shell treatment used in this study was washing with detergent for 20 minutes, soaking with 0.5 molar NaOH for 24 hours and soaking with one molar NaOH for 24 hours. The results of the treatment from the process of soaking the shells with 1 molar NaOH for 24 hours can reduce the oil layer on the palm shells more than other treatments. The results of the oil palm shell concrete specimens with 1 molar NaOH immersion treatment for 24 hours produced the most optimal concrete compressive strength, with the results of the compressive strength for concrete specimens aged 28 days being 11.8 MPa with a specific gravity of 1770.70 kg/m3 . This result is the most optimal result compared to the results of other treatments carried out on oil palm shells. The results of the test object of lightweight concrete of palm shells meet the requirements as lightweight concrete according to SNI 03-2847-2002 as lightweight concrete, in terms of compressive strength of lightweight concrete does not meet the requirements as lightweight structural concrete so that lightweight concrete of palm shells is included in the classification of low quality concrete. for use as a non-structural wall and as a work floor.
