Abstract

Berdasarkan laporan “Year in Search 2020 Indonesia” yang diterbitkan oleh Google, terdapat tren dimana konsumen Indonesia semakin peduli kepada isu-isu sosial yang terjadi di masyarakat. Salah satu isu sosial yang sedang terjadi adalah degenerasi empati akibat maraknya digitalisasi dan kurangnya stimulasi interaksi sosial secara langsung. Empati didefinisikan sebagai kemampuan untuk memahami dan merasakan perasaan orang lain serta mengadopsi sudut pandang orang lain (Colman, 2015). Empati merupakan aspek yang dapat dilatih. Oleh karena itu penulis merancang sebuah media edukatif untuk melatih empati pada anak usia 3-6 tahun, sebuah rentang usia dimana manusia mulai belajar bersosialisasi dengan orang-orang di luar keluarganya. Dengan adanya kaitan antara empati dan rasa syukur, media edukatif ini juga diharapkan dapat meningkatkan rasa syukur anak. Metode perancangan diawali dengan melakukan wawancara, menyebar kuesioner, dan studi literatur. Kemudian dilakukan analisis data untuk menyusun variabel perancangan, merancang konsep produk, dan pembuatan serta uji prototype produk. Hasil dari perancangan ini adalah serangkaian media edukatif melatih empati untuk menumbuhkan rasa syukur pada anak usia 3-6 tahun, yang memfasilitasi adanya waktu berkualitas antara anak dan orangtua. Produk bernama Bebo yang merupakan singkatan dari “belajar empati bersama orangtua” ini terdiri dari 3 kit yang dapat digunakan secara bertahap sesuai dengan tingkat pemahaman anak. / According to Google's "Year in Search 2020 Indonesia" report, Indonesian consumers are beginning to pay greater attention to social issues. One of the current social issues is the lack of empathy, which is being caused by digitalization and a lack of social interaction. Empathy is defined as an ability to understand and experience someone else’s feelings and to adopt someone else’s viewpoint (Colman, 2015). Empathy is a skill that can be learnt. In this project, the author designs an education kit to foster empathy in children aged 3-6 years, as this is the beginning for a child’s interaction with individuals outside of their immediate family. As empathy and gratitude are related and can have an impact on one another, this education kit also intends to foster gratitude in children. Interviews, questionnaires, and secondary research are the first steps in the research process. The data is examined to create design variables and product concepts, which goes to the manufacturing process and user review stage for the prototype. The project's output is a set of 3 learning kits designed to foster empathy and gratitude in children aged 3-6 years, allowing parents and children to spend more quality time together thus improving parent-child relationship. This product, called Bebo (short for "learning empathy with parents"), can be used in three stages depending on the children's skills.
