Abstract

Indonesia terkenal dengan industri pengolahan kayu yang cukup berkembang. Secara tidak langsung, industri ini memberikan dampak negatif atas penghasilannya akan sisa-sisa kayu yang disebut sebagai limbah kayu. Limbah ini sering kali dianggap tidak bernilai dan jarang dimanfaatkan kembali, bahkan hanya ditumpuk, dibuang ke sungai, dan dibakar yang secara langsung dapat menyebabkan pencemaran yang mengakibatkan emisi karbon di atmosfir. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dimana dilakukan pengumpulan data-data mengenai limbah kayu dan cara pengolahannya berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti lain. Dilanjutkan dengan eksplorasi berdasarkan data sudah terkumpul. Ada juga eksplorasi berkelanjutan yang didasarkan pada hasil yang muncul ketika eksplorasi pertama dilakukan. Dalam proses eksplorasi ini, penulis memiliki tujuan utama untuk mengolah limbah kayu, terutama kayu serut untuk diubah menjadi produk memiliki nilai ekonomis tinggi dan ramah lingkungan. Salah satu eksplorasi yang dilakukan adalah eksplorasi perekat alami guna mempersatukan kayu serut tersebut sebagai pengganti perekat kimiawi. Dalam eksplorasi ini ditambahkan juga berapa indikator pembeda, seperti penggunaan pati yang beragam, penambahan cuka untuk mengurangi resiko jamur, hingga penambahan serbuk kayu guna memperkuat material yang dihasilkan. Dari eksplorasi-eksplorasi tersebut ditemukan bahwa formulasi tepung kentang, air, dan cuka dengan penambahan serbuk kayu sebanyak 75% dari jumlah kayu serut yang ditambahkan, merupakan material yang memiliki daya tahan yang paling maksimal. Dalam prosesnya, ditemukan bahwa material tersebut cukup kuat untuk menahan beban hingga 10 kg. Sehingga, dibuatlah produk yang memiliki kegunaan untuk menahan beban yang tidak terlalu berat yang dapat digunakan pada masa sekarang yaitu laptop/desktop stand yang terbuat dari material limbah kayu serut dengan perekat alami yang juga ramah lingkungan. / Indonesia is famous for its growing wood processing industry. Implicitly, this industry contributes negatively by producing wood remnants which in classified as wood waste. This waste is frequently considered worthless and rarely to be reuse,indeed just piled up, dumped into rivers, and burned which can cause pollution that result in carbon emmision in the atmosphere. In this research, used a qualitative method where a lot of data about wood waste and the processing method was collected through another researchers’ journal. Followed by explorastion based on data collected and conduct further exploration based on data that might occur during last exploration. The purpose of exploration is to determine which process can produce a high economic value and eco-friendly product. One of the explorations was conducting a natural adhesives exploration to bond the shaved wood as a substitute for chemical adhesives. Within the exploration also added many differentiating indicators such as, various uses of starch, addition of vinegar to reduce the risk of mold, and addition of sawdust to strengthen the finishing material. From the exploration, it was found that to produce the material that had the maximum durability, the formulation used were potato starch, water, vinegar, with additional 75% sawdust of the total amount of shaved wood. Also found that the material was strong enough to withstand loads up to 10 kg. Based on that result, made a product that can withstand not to heavy loads and can be used nowdays, which is laptop/desktop stand made by shaved wood waste with natural adhesives that also environmentally friendly.
