Abstract

The existence of Chinese ethnicities is only 1.2% of the total population in Indonesia. Related to the issue where ethnic Chinese has never seen as a true Indonesian, although in reality many of the ethnicity of Chinese people who have been on grandchildren and settled for hundreds of years in Indonesia. Despite the efforts of various parties, both community organizations such as Chinese associations and historical figures, cultural figures and individual efforts, there is not a single site where all the Chinese stories of the archipelago are combined in the context of the contribution of the ethnic Chinese to Indonesian history as a whole. Rumah Oei is one of the peranakan houses in Lasem where this building was built by the first generation of the Oei family who landed in Indonesia in 1818, Oei Am (the first generation of the Oei family) who married a native Lasem woman. This house was empty up until in 2016, and then renovated. Currently Rumah Oei is part of the heritage area, the building has changed its function from a residential house to a cultural heritage, a tourist destination, as well as a place for cultural performances in Lasem. The research technique used is a case study with a narrative approach which in its design uses the storyline of the cultural habits of the Oei family which represents the Peranakan culture. In the data collection technique, the primary method is direct interviews with the management, namely the original descendants of the Oei family and secondary through written and scientific sources, recordings, and documentation. The analysis of the design results was tested on the basis of theoretical foundations related to Peranakan Chinese culture as well as related theoretical studies and it can be concluded that the design can answer the problems and design objectives, namely that interior design can represent the identity of the Peranakan Chinese culture in Lasem through the implementation of its design and innovate new specific solutions in solving problems that arise. targeted and adapted to the heritage of the building, to strike a balance between heritage preservation and today's requirements without compromising the character of the heritage
