Abstract

According to the National Minister of Health, throughout the year 2020, there’s a significant increase in Indonesia Citizens suffering from mental health issues, as much as 6.8% of which 18.300 of them suffer from anxiety disorder and the other 23.000 suffer from depression. Based on those numbers, approximately 1.900 of them have attempted suicide. Forest Healing Resort becomes a public therapy center for mental and spiritual healing for the urban populations in productive age using the forest bathing or first known as shinrin-yoku approach. This therapy method is always known as the mindfulness therapy in the medical field. The appointed site for this project is Cikole Village, Lembang, Bandung. With the distance of 30 minutes away from the central of Bandung which is also the second-largest education city in Indonesia, college and universities students fall under the potential users criteria who will most likely show interest in this facility. According to the writer’s research based on several literature sources and an interview with a psychologist and a patient with mental health issues, the writer found that nature’s elements in general give positive feedback and response towards an individual’s psychology and emotion. An interior of one space and the elements used play an important role in affecting individual emotions and behavior. The current study intends the use of interior elements that hold the role of a medium for the user to become one and harmonize with nature. The elements used in each interior are a representation of nature itself using a healing environment and a green design approach. Furthermore, this project’s goal is to give users an extra-ordinary interior experience of being in the middle of a forest, harmonizing with nature as a form of mental health healing and care for the urban population.
