Abstract

Indonesia is located in areas where natural disasters such as earthquakes. This project is a research project on Pero Konda Village in Southwest Sumba with a population of 1,360 people and an area of 0.99 km2. Sumba is located at the confluence of two tectonic plates, namely the Indo-Australian plate and the Lempang plate, so it is often shaken by earthquakes. From the research results, earthquake resistance buildings must use lightweight building materials to minimize risks such as wood, mild steel, bricks, and so on. Symmetry is important in a house so that vibrations from an earthquake are distributed uniformly throughout the building. Knockdown design is often used in earthquake-resistant buildings because of its flexibility to expand and reduce space according to the needs and activities of the room. The focus of this architectural interior design is to provide emergency services to meet the needs of disaster victims by providing temporary shelter by taking into account the condition of local wisdom. The existing problems raise the thought of how to use existing interior design and architectural methods to transform the space to meet user needs and safety by taking into account the choice of materials, circulation, and room acoustics. With this in mind, the author created the idea to build a living space for the families affected by this earthquake with a sustainable design approach and considering the durability of the material through the selection of quality materials and construction so that safety and comfort can be realized.
