Abstract

Pecinan Glodok merupakan kawasan pemukiman keturunan Tionghoa di Jakarta Barat sejak zaman penjajahan Belanda di Indonesia. Proyek perancangan ini mengimplementasikan bentuk vernakular dari kawasan ruko Pecinan Glodok dalam medium huruf. Dalam proses perancangan, pengumpulan data dilakukan secara daring melalui studi pustaka, visual, dan wawancara. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis secara visual, dan menjadi konsep serta landasan dalam merancang keseluruhan visual typeface. Hasil akhir proyek berupa display type bernama ‘Pantjoran’ yang terbagi atas empat file font, yaitu Pantjoran Serif Light, Pantjoran Serif Dark, Pantjoran Sans Light, dan Pantjoran Sans Dark. Pantjoran versi terang (Pantjoran Serif dan Sans Light) digunakan pada latar belakang terang, dan versi gelap (Pantjoran Serif dan Sans Dark) untuk digunakan pada latar belakang gelap. Setiap file font terdiri dari karakter huruf, angka, simbol, serta tanda diakritik yang digunakan dalam Bahasa Mandarin. Huruf-huruf yang dirancang juga diimplementasikan dalam medium poster dan buku spesimen. Hasil akhir display type yang dirancang dapat merepresentasikan bentuk vernakular kawasan ruko Pecinan Glodok ke dalam bentuk yang tradisional dan autentik, serta dirancang berdasarkan kaidah tipografi. / Glodok Chinatown has been a residential area of Chinese descent in West Jakarta since the Dutch colonial era in Indonesia. This design project implemented the vernacular form of the Glodok Chinatowns' shophouse in the medium of letters. In the design process, the data gathering phase is done online through literature study, visuals, and interviews. The collected data were analyzed visually and become the concept plus the basis for designing the typeface's overall visual. The project's final result is a display type called 'Pantjoran' which is divided into four font files, namely Pantjoran Serif Light, Pantjoran Serif Dark, Pantjoran Sans Light, and Pantjoran Sans Dark. Light versions of Pantjoran (Pantjoran Serif and Sans Light) are used on light backgrounds, and dark versions (Pantjoran Serif and Sans Dark) are used on dark backgrounds. Each font file consists of letters, numbers, symbols, and diacritical marks used in Chinese. The designed letters are also implemented in the medium of posters and specimen books. The final result of the designed type can represent the vernacular form of the Glodok Pecinan shophouse area into a traditional and authentic form and is designed based on typographical rules.
