Abstract

TikTok menjadi media sosial paling populer dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Kepopuleran TikTok terlepas dari fitur-fitur yang disajikan TikTok dan membuat semua orang dapat menjadi pembuat tema dengan mudah. Selain itu TikTok juga menggunakan sistem algoritma user generated content yang membuat penggunanya dapat menikmati tema-tema TikTok sesuai dengan apa yang mereka gemari. Popularitas TikTok juga memberi ruang bagi kelompok minoritas yang termarjinalisasi di Indonesia. Kelompok Minorities Sexual and Gender Identities (MSGI) yang menghadapi diskriminasi dan stigma di tengah masyarakat turut menggunakan TikTok sebagai media untuk mereka mengungkapkan ekspresi diri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk mengaji penggunaan TikTok sebagai medium kebebasan berekspresi pada MSGI. Dengan menggali pengalaman langsung dari MSGI yang menggunakan TikTok, penelitian ini membedah tema-tema MSGI diciptakan di TikTok, pemilihan TikTok sebagai medium yang aman bagi MSGI dalam mengungkapkan kebebasan bereskpresi, dan konstruksi diri bagi MSGI pada identitas mereka./ TikTok has become the most popular social media in recent years. The popularity of TikTok caused by the features that TikTok provides and makes it easy for everyone to become a content creator. In addition, TikTok also uses a user generated content algorithm system that allows users to enjoy TikTok content according to what they like. The popularity of TikTok has also provided space for marginalized minority groups in Indonesia. The Minorities Sexual and Gender Identity (MSGI) group that faces discrimination and stigma in the community also uses TikTok as a medium for them to express themselves. This study uses a qualitative approach to examine the use of TikTok as a medium for freedom of expression at MSGI. By exploring MSGI's direct experience using TikTok, this study examines the MSGI content created on TikTok, the selection of TikTok as a safe medium for MSGI to express freedom of expression, and MSGI's self-construction of their identity.
