Abstract

Dalam pemanfaatan kayu sebagai bahan konstruksi, bahan kayu yang digunakan tersebut harus memiliki sifat mekanis yang memenuhi persyaratan kayu yang baik dan mampu menahan beban berdasarkan jangka waktu yang telah direncanakan. Pemilihan kayu yang dilakukan disebut dengan istilah grading. Di Indonesia terdapat peraturan kayu yaitu PKKI 1961 yang berkembang menjadi SNI 7973:2013, yang dimana kayu dipilah tidak hanya secara visual, namun melalui grading mechanic menggunakan mesin grading dan dikelompokkan berdasarkan modulus of elasticity (MOE). MOE merupakan besarnya kemampuan kayu untuk menahan beban pada kondisi batas elastisnya. Pengujian Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) merupakan pengujian non-destruktif untuk mengevaluasi mutu beton. Kayu yang merupakan material ortotropik berbeda dengan beton maka dalam penelitian ini ingin melihat potensi penggunaan metode UPV ini pada kayu. Metode UPV yang mudah dibawa kemana-mana dan sifatnya yang tidak merusak benda uji ini jika dapat dilakukan maka akan memudahkan dalam menentukan mutu kayu. Penelitian ini membandingkan MOEs grading mechanic menggunakan UTM sebagai acuan dengan MOEd hasil UPV. Dari hasil penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa MOEd hasil UPV 50,9% lebih tinggi dibandingkan MOEs hasil grading mechanic menggunakan UTM sehingga diperlukan suatu kalibrasi melalui korelasi MOEd = 1,51 MOEs. Hasil pengujian UPV pada kayu dipengaruhi oleh arah rambatan gelombang terhadap arah serat kayu sehingga perlu diperhatikan penggunaannya./ In the utilization of wood as a construction material, the wood material used must have mechanical properties that meet the requirements of good wood and be able to withstand loads based on the planned period of time. The selection of wood is called grading. In Indonesia, there is a wood regulation, namely the PKKI 1961 which developed into SNI 7973:2013, in which wood is sorted not only visually, but through mechanical grading using a grading machine and grouped based on the modulus of elasticity (MOE). MOE is the amount of wood's ability to withstand loads at its elastic limit. Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) testing is a non-destructive test to evaluate the quality of concrete. Wood which is an orthotropic material is different from concrete, so in this study we wanted to see the potential use of this UPV method on wood. The UPV method which is easy to carry everywhere and its non-destructive nature of the test object, if it can be carried out, will make it easier to determine the quality of the wood. This study compares MOEs grading mechanic using UTM as a reference with MOEd from UPV. From the results of this study, it was found that the MOEd from UPV was 50.9% higher than the MOEs from grading mechanics using UTM, so a calibration was needed through the correlation MOEd = 1.51 MOEs. The results of the UPV test on wood are influenced by the direction of wave propagation against the direction of the wood fiber, so it is necessary to pay attention to its use.
