Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of profitability and leverage analysis on financial distress. The population and samples that are used in this study is from consumer goods industry companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the period 2015-2017. This research is quantitative research using secondary data obtained from the company's annual financial statements in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The methods of samples that are used in this study are purposive sampling method; the samples chosen are 35 companies from 40 populations with a total of 105 research data. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics, classic assumption test, and multiple linear regression analysis. The test in this study uses profitability and leverage ratios. The results of this study prove that partially, profitability that proxy in Return on assets has a significant effect on financial distress while leverage proxy in the Debt ratio negatively affects financial distress. These results indicate an indication that information about profit is more used by investors in detecting the occurrence of financial distress in the company. Simultaneously, all independent variables namely Profitability (Return on assets) and Leverage (Debt ratio) have a significant effect on the dependent variable, financial distress
