Abstract

Makna kehidupan manusia dapat ditemukan melalui penderitaan atau situasi yang tidak memiliki harapan sekalipun. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memberikan gambaran secara mendalam tentang seperti apa penderitaan yang dialami seorang individu pada proses pencarian makna hidupnya. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah Jaya, seorang pemimpin pelayanan pemuridan di Surabaya, yang menemukan makna hidupnya melalui penderitaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode life history. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan teknik wawancara semi-terstruktur dan teknik analisis data naratif. Proses penemuan makna hidup Jaya dimulai dari penderitaan, yaitu kejatuhan ekonomi keluarga secara tiba-tiba. Kejatuhan ini menyebabkan Jaya mengalami bullying dan harus bekerja sambil bersekolah. Tekanan kehidupan membuat Jaya menjadi pribadi yang keras dan ingin membalaskan dendamnya, hingga perjumpaannya secara pribadi dengan Tuhan mengubahkan kehidupannya. Kejadian itu memberikan makna bagi kehidupan Jaya dan membuatnya mengambil keputusan untuk menjadi seorang penginjil / The meaning in life can be found through suffering or even in a hopeless situation. The purpose of this research is to deeply understand what kind of suffering experienced by someone in the process of finding the meaning in life. The subject in this study is Jaya, a leader of a discipleship ministry in Surabaya, who found the meaning in his life through suffering. This research used a qualitative approach with life history method. The data in this study were collected using semi-structured interview techniques and analyzed with narrative techniques. The study showed that the process of finding the meaning in life of Jaya started with suffering, a sudden economic fallout of his family. This economic fallout caused Jaya to experience bullying and also Jaya had to study at school while working at same time. Life pressures made Jaya become harsh and wanted to take revenge, until his personal encounter with God changed his life. His personal encounter with God gave meaning to his life and made him took the decision to become an evangelist
