Abstract

Latar Belakang: Perkembangan smartphone yang cepat tidak terkecuali di Indonesia, pada tahun 2018 pengguna aktif smartphone diperkirakan mencapai lebih dari 100 juta orang. Penggunaan smartphone berlebihan dapat menyebabkan adiksi smartphone dan berdampak terhadap beberapa aspek kehidupan seperti nyeri muskuloskeletal, aktivitas fisik berkurang dan dapat mempengaruhi mood hingga menyebabkan depresi. Penelitian mengenai adiksi smartphone beserta hubungannya dengan depresi masih sedikit dan kebanyakan dilakukan kepada usia remaja. Salah satu contoh penelitian yang dilakukan terhadap remaja dengan rata-rata usia 15.15 tahun di Korea Selatan mendapatkan hasil bahwa ada hubungan antara adiksi smartphone dengan depresi. Menurut Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan Republik Indonesia Nomor 25 tahun 2014, remaja adalah penduduk berusia 10 – 18 tahun, sehingga didasarkan dengan kurangnya penelitian mengenai topik ini, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan adiksi smartphone dengan depresi pada populasi dewasa atau usia 19 tahun keatas pada mahasiswa praklinik Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Tujuan Penelitian: Untuk mengetahui hubungan antara adiksi smartphone dengan depresi pada mahasiswa praklinik Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi potong lintang dengan sampel sebesar 224 mahasiswa praklinik Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Adiksi smartphone diukur dengan Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Version (SAS-SV). Depresi diukur menggunakan Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression – Revised (CESD-R). Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Data diproses menggunakan analisis bivariat chi-square pada program SPSS. Hasil: Sebanyak 224 responden berusia 19 – 25 tahun terdapat dalam penelitian ini. 92 orang (41.1%) mengalami adiksi smartphone sementara 72 orang (32.1%) mengalami depresi. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara adiksi smartphone dengan depresi (OR = 4.909; 95% CI: 2.688 – 8.967, p-value <0.001). Kata kunci: adiksi smartphone, depresi / Background: The rapid development of smartphone is no exception in Indonesia with more than 100 million active smartphone users in 2018. Excessive smartphone use may develop into smartphone addiction and disrupt certain aspects of life such as musculoskeletal pain, reduces physical activity and may even lead to depression. Studies regarding smartphone addiction and its relationship with depression are still scarce and mostly done towards the age population of teenagers. One example is a study done in South Korea towards teenagers with the average age of 15.15 years old showing a relationship between smartphone addiction and depression. According to the Regulation of Indonesia’s Ministry of Health Number 25 of 2014, teenagers are residents within the age of 10 – 18 years old, based on the scarcity of the studies regarding this topic, this study will be done to assess the relationship of smartphone addiction with depression on the adult population or age 19 years old and above towards the preclinical students of Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Pelita Harapan. Aim: Determine the relationship of smartphone addiction with depression in preclinical students of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan. Methods: The design of this study is cross-sectional. There are 224 samples consisted of preclinical students of Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Pelita Harapan. Smartphone addiction is measured using the Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Version (SAS-SV), meanwhile depression is measured using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression – Revised (CESD-R). Data is collected using the purposive sampling technique. After data collection, it is then processed using bivariate analysis of chi-square in the SPSS program. Results: There are 224 respondents consisting the ages of 19 – 25 years old in this study. 92 individuals (41.1%) have smartphone addiction, meanwhile 72 individuals (32.1%) have depression. There is a significant relationship between smartphone addiction with depression (OR = 4.909; 95% CI: 2.688 – 8.967, p-value <0.001). Keyword: smartphone addiction, depression
