Abstract

Komunikasi dan budaya adalah dua elemen yang tidak terpisahkan dalam masyarakat dan organisasi manusia, dan itu bervariasi dengan budaya yang berbeda di dalamnya. Dalam organisasi antarbudaya, sangat penting untuk membangun komunikasi yang sehat untuk mencapai visi dan misi organisasi yang sama. Dengan menggunakan Teori Akomodasi Komunikasi, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana guru-guru ekspatriat dengan orientasi budaya kolektivistik dan individualistik menyesuaikan perilaku komunikasi mereka melalui akomodasi konvergensi dan divergensi dalam organisasi pendidikan multikultural.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi pasif-observant dan wawancara sebagai sumber data primer, serta studi pustaka dan dokumen sebagai sumber data sekunder. Informan dipilih dari latar belakang budaya mereka yang berbeda dari budaya barat dan timur serta status mereka sebagai guru baru di Indonesia.Dari penelitian ini, guru ekspatriat dengan nilai-nilai kolektivistik cenderung melakukan konvergensi, dan guru dengan nilai-nilai individualistik lebih banyak berdivergensi saat berkomunikasi dengan lawan bicara. Baik konvergen maupun divergen, keduanya menuju kepada motif kognitif yang bertujuan untuk mencapai pemahaman yang lebih dalam dan komunikasi yang lebih efisien./ Communication and culture are two inseparable elements in human society and organizations, and it varies with different cultures. In cross-cultural organizations, it is essential to build healthy communication to achieve the same vision and mission of the organizations. Guided by Communication Accommodation Theory, this research aims to see how expatriate teachers with collectivistic and individualistic cultural orientations adjust their communication behavior through the accommodation of convergence and divergence in a multicultural education organization. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection is carried out through passive-observant observation and interviews as primary data sources, and literature and document study as sources of secondary data. Informants are selected from their distinct cultural backgrounds of western and eastern cultures and their status as new teachers in Indonesia. From this research, the expatriate teacher with collectivist values tends to converge, and the teacher with individualist values is mostly diverging when communicating with their interlocutors. Either converging or diverging, both motives are toward the cognitive motives aiming to achieve deeper comprehension and more efficient communication.
