Abstract

Vocabulary knowledge offers an important role in learning a language. It is so because vocabulary helps people to understand language in certain contexts. Especially in school, the more students know the vocabulary, the more they will understand the words. But there was a problem found in the classroom which was students‟ vocabulary knowledge. Furthermore, flashcards were used to increase students‟ vocabulary knowledge in learning English about alphabets and its vocabularies. Classroom Action Research has been conducted in two implementations of teaching English by using flashcards. It started from October 10, 2018 - October 18, 2018. The subjects were 18 students and the instruments used by the researcher were lesson plans, journal reflections, mentor feedback forms, and tests in descriptive and qualitative explanation. The result showed that flashcards can increase students‟ vocabulary knowledge; it can be seen from the first implementation to second implementation which is from 33 percent up to 88.6 percent in terms of knowing form and meaning of vocabulary knowledge. / Pemahaman kosakata memberikan sebuah peranan penting dalam mempelajari sebuah bahasa. Hal itu dikarenakan kosakata membantu orang untuk mengerti makna di dalam konteks tertentu. Terlebih khusus lagi di sekolah, siswa yang lebih banyak tahu tentang kosakata, lebih mengerti kata - kata tersebut. Akan tetapi, di temukan sebuah masalah di dalam kelas yaitu siswa bingung tentang pemahaman kosakata. Selanjutnya, flashcards digunakan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman kosakata siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris tentang alfabet and kosakatanya. Penelitian Tindakan Kelas telah dilaksanakan dalam dua kali pelaksanaan dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan flashcards. Dimulai dari 10 Oktober 2018 sampai 18 Oktober 2018, dan subjek penelitian adalah 18 siswa dan instrumen yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah RPP, jurnal refleksi, umpan balik mentor, dan tes dalam penjelasan deskriptif dan kualitatif. Hasil dari penggunaan flashcards dapat meningkatkan pemahaman kosakata siswa, hal itu dapat dilihat dari hasil pelaksanaan pertama dan kedua yaitu dari 33 persen hingga 88.6 persen dalam hal mengetahui bentuk dan arti dari pengetahuan kata.
