Abstract

Based on observation, teaching, and learning that have been conducted in one of the Christian schools in Cikarang, the researcher found the students did not perform well on how to get ideas in their report text (pre-writing, writing, and formative). Most of the students made mistakes on the grammar after being checked by the researcher and mentor teacher, and more than 50% did not pass the grammar test with the minimum score of 72. Therefore, the researcher decided to implement deductive teaching method to improve grammatical knowledge of grade IX students. The research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with Pelton’s model. The research was conducted in grade IX consisting of 20 students. The research was conducted in two implementations, started from July 23 until November 2, 2018. The instruments used were test, mentor’s feedback, reflection journal, students’ questionnaire, observation form, and lesson plan. The data result and analysis showed that before the implementation, 30% (6 students out of 20) could pass the pre-test quiz. Meanwhile after implementing the method, 80% (16 students out of 20) could pass the first quiz, and 100% (20 students out of 20) could pass the second quiz. In conclusion, implementing deductive teaching method could improve grade IX students’ grammatical knowledge. / Berdasarkan hasil observasi, pengajaran, dan pembelajaran yang telah dilakukan di salah satu sekolah Kristen di Cikarang, peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa-siswi tersebut tidak dapat mengemukakan ide mereka dalam menulis report text (sebelum penulisan, penulisan, dan formatif). Sebagian besar dari siswa-siswi tersebut membuat kesalahan dalam grammar setelah diperiksa oleh peneliti dan guru mentor, dan lebih dari 50% tidak mencapai nilai KKM 72. Oleh karena itu, peneliti memutuskan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan grammatical siswa kelas IX. Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Pelton. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas IX yang terdiri dari 20 siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam 2 implementasi, yang dilaksanakan pada 23 Juli sampai 2 November 2018. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes, umpan balik mentor, jurnal refleksi, angket siswa lembar observasi, dan RPP (rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran). Hasil dari pengolahan data dan analisis menunjukkan bahwa sebelum penerapan, 30% (6 siswa dari 20) dapat lulus dari pre-test quiz. Sementara itu, setelah penerapan metode tersebut, 80% (16 siswa dari 20) dapat lulus quiz pertama, dan 100% (20 siswa dari 20) dapat lulus quiz kedua. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode pengajaran deduktif dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan grammatical siswa kelas IX.
