Abstract

Copyright is an exclusive right owned by the creator or copyright holder of the copyrighted work they own. Film is a type of copyrighted work that is protected by the Copyright Act. Even though it has been protected, there are still many people who commit film piracy which is distributed on illegal sites. The problem that will be examined in this paper is how the legal protection of copyright holders for piracy of films circulating on illegal sites and how legal remedies are taken by copyright holders for the piracy of these films. The author also raised the piracy case of the film Keluarga Cemara which was distributed on illegal situs. This research belongs to empirical normative research, the data sources used are primary and secondary legal materials. After the data is obtained, then the data will be analyzed qualitatively with the deductive method. Based on the results of the research and discussion, it was found that there are several arrangements governing copyright protection and there are three steps that copyright holders can take in the event of a violation of their copyrighted work. Considering that copyright infringements on films are still rife, law enforcement by law enforcement officials is very important. The author proposes several suggestions that are expected to help resolve disputes over copyright infringement in Indonesia, especially piracy of films circulating on illegal sites
