Abstract

WHO declared four out of five adults with hypertension does not have it under control. Based on Indonesian Basic Health Research in 2018 the level of medication adherence on adults with hypertension was relatively low with almost half of adults diagnosed with hypertension are not taking medication as recommended. Unfortunately, hypertensive patients who are not not taking medication as recommended put themselves at risk of hypertension complications. Health literacy of hypertension might be a key to solve the adherence problem as it grows. Therefore, this study is dedicated to find a correlation between health literacy and medication adherence of adults with hypertension, especially in the Serpong region. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find a correlation between health literacy and medication adherence of adults with hypertension in Serpong. Hypothesis: Adequate health literacy would increase medication adherence of adults with hypertension in Serpong Methodology: This study will be done with unpaired categorical comparative analysis with cross-sectional approach. A total of 156 samples met the inclusion criteria acquired in August 2022. Samples were acquired by convenience sampling done with a questionnaire that includes Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 and Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scaling. Result: No significant relationship found between hypertension knowledge level and medication adherence in serpong district adults with hypertension (p = 0.977) Keywords: Hypertension, Hypertension Knowledge Level, Medication Adherence,Serpong, Adult
