Abstract

Makeup is used to beautify the face which is sometimes also associated with someone's social status. However, it turns out that makeup is not only used for humans who are still alive, but also for dead figures (corpses). In history, this culture began in Ancient Egypt because it was considered as a form of spiritual protection in the next life. In Indonesia, the culture of mortuary makeup is carried by Christians and people of Chinese descent who adhere to Buddhism and Confucianism. For in their belief, the corpse must be seen in a positive condition, look decent and honourable. So this procession requires people who understand about the procedure for mortuary makeup and work as a mortuary makeup artist.
