Abstract

At a glance, the phenomenon of industrialization is seen as an opportunity for the country's economic growth, but in fact it threatens sustainability due to a decrease in environmental quality influenced by consumerist lifestyle and the ambition to maximize wealth through production activity. Number of experts, countries, and even small-scale non-governmental organizations are starting to realize this challenge, one of which is CAG. This research is purposely made to see the support of non-governmental organizations in India, Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG). Several CAG’s programs are found supporting environmental crisis prevention through promoting the procurement of sustainable practices, which also identified relevant to the target of SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production as the global agenda of the environmental pillar. The theoretical framework used in this research is Green Political Theory, with following concepts of SDG 12, Decentralization, and Collective Action. This research using qualitative approach with descriptive analysis method. The data collected is secondary data that obtained from online searches. Existing data are analyzed using narrative analysis and ESA (Event Structure Analysis) techniques. This research is conducted to see an overview of CAG's efforts to maintain environmental sustainability, which are traced from CAG’s programs and interactions that are relevant to the targets under SDG 12. In its efforts, CAG attracted the involvement of many small actors such as the consumer community to choose the best post-consumption options, by reducing effort of amount of waste. Filling the sustainability knowledge gap is utilized by CAG to building awareness and advocating for greener policy changes. To reach significance, CAG establishes relations with several international NGOs. Number of CAG's actions are motivated by the country that considered has a weak commitment to prioritizing environmental issues because of anthropocentric perspective influence.
