Abstract

Both of these are mediated by coping strategies. When students use adaptive coping strategies, they will not be exposed to the risk of loneliness. Conversely, if students use maladaptive coping strategies, they will tend to feel loneliness. This study aims to examine 158 students in Indonesia regarding the role of coping strategies as a mediator between the relationship between internet addiction and loneliness. This research was conducted using a quantitative method using the UCLA Loneliness Scale, Brief COPE, and the Internet Addiction Test (IAT). The results of this study indicate that there is a mediating role for coping strategies, especially in maladaptive coping strategies. Meanwhile, adaptive coping strategy does not mediate the relationship between internet addiction and loneliness. There is also a negative correlation between adaptive coping strategy and loneliness which shows that if students use an adaptive coping strategy, then loneliness will decrease or not exist at all.
