Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim to know the effect of leverage and company size towards profitability in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2017 – 2020. This research is designed as causal research, which used data from 205 population. Data were collected using purposive sampling method, resulting selected 59 companies, and 236 unit of observations as samples. The data analysis method in this research is multiple linear regression test. The data used are the financial statements of the sample company, published through the site www.idx.co.id. This research has one dependent variable and two independent variables. The dependent variable used in this study is profitability which is calculated using return on assets (ROA). The independent variables used in this study are leverage, which is calculated using debt to asset ratio (DAR), and company size, which is calculated using natural logarithm of total asset. The result of this study indicates that leverage has a significant effect towards profitability, company size has a significant effect towards profitability, and leverage and company size have a significant effect towards profitability simultaneously./ Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh leverage dan ukuran perusahaan terhadap profitabilitas pada perusahaan manufaktur yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) pada tahun 2017 – 2020. Penelitian ini dirancang sebagai penelitian kausal, yang menggunakan data dari 205 populasi. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling menghasilkan 59 perusahaan terpilih dan 236 unit observasi sebagai sampel. Metode analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah uji regresi linier berganda. Data yang digunakan adalah laporan keuangan masing-masing perusahaan sampel, yang dipublikasikan melalui situs www.idx.co.id. Penelitian ini memiliki satu variabel dependen dan variabel independen two. Variabel dependen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah profitabilitas yang dihitung menggunakan return on assets (ROA). Variabel independen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah leverage yang dihitung menggunakan debt to asset ratio (DAR), dan ukuran perusahaan dihitung menggunakan natural logaritma total aset. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa leverage berpengaruh signifikan terhadap profitabilitas, ukuran perusahaan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap profitabilitas, dan leverage serta ukuran perusahaan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap profitabilitas secara bersamaan
