Abstract

Salah satu hal yang harus diperhatikan dalam menulis yaitu ketepatan dalam menggunakan huruf kapital. Tujuan pembelajaran di kelas 1 dan 2 SD, salah satunya yaitu siswa harus memperhatikan penggunaan huruf kapital saat menulis. Namun pada kenyataannya, hasil observasi yang dilakukan pada kelas III di salah satu Sekolah Dasar Kristen di Jakarta Barat menyatakan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan huruf kapital masih rendah. Hal ini terlihat saat siswa mengerjakan tugas atau sedang menulis, siswa tidak menerapkan penggunaan huruf kapital. Berdasarkan hasil kerja, terdapat 22 siswa yang belum tepat dalam menggunakan huruf kapital. Hal ini yang mendasari peneliti untuk melakukan tindakan yaitu menerapkan metode drill. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah dan bagaimana penerapan metode drill dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menggunakan huruf kapital siswa kelas III di salah satu Sekolah Dasar Kristen di Jakarta Barat. Metode dalam penelitian ini yaitu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Pelton. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 2 kali tindakan dan dilakukan sejak 23 Agustus – 25 Oktober 2018. Subjek penelitian ini ialah siswa kelas III SD yang berjumlah 24 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu RPP, tes, lembar checklist observasi mentor, jurnal refleksi, dan umpan balik mentor. Jumlah siswa yang tepat menggunakan huruf kapital pada tindakan 1 berjumlah 16 siswa atau 66,67% menjadi 18 siswa atau 75% pada tindakan 2. Melalui penelitian yang dilakukan, hasil menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode drill dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan huruf kapital. Penerapan metode drill terdiri dari lima langkah yaitu menyampaikan tujuan atau gambaran dari apa yang hendak dicapai, memotivasi peserta didik, memberikan latihan, menetapkan waktu mengerjakan latihan, mengawasi atau memperhatikan masing-masing siswa untuk melihat kemampuannya dalam mengerjakan latihan. / One of the things that must be considered in writing is the accuracy in using capital letters. One of the learning objectives in grade 1 and 2 Elementary school, is students must pay attention to the use capital letters when writing. But in reality, the results of observations conducted in grade III at one Christian Elementary Schools in West Jakarta stated that students' ability to use capital letters was still low. This can be seen when students were writing, students did not apply the use of capital letters. Based on the results of the work, there are 22 students who are not precise in using capital letters. This is what underlies the researchers to take action, namely applying the drill method. This study aims to determine whether and how the application of the drill method can improve the ability to use capital letters of class III students in one of the Christian Elementary Schools in West Jakarta. The method in this study is Pelton's Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study consisted of 2 actions and was carried out from August 23 to October 25, 2018. The subjects of this study were grade III Elementary school students totaling 24 students. The instruments used were RPP, tests, mentor observation checklist sheets, reflection journals, and mentor feedback. The right number of students uses capital letters in action 1 totaling 16 students or 66.67% to 18 students or 75% in action 2. Through research conducted, the results show that the application of drill methods can improve students' ability to use capital letters. The application of the drill method consists of five steps, namely conveying the purpose or description of what is to be achieved, motivating students, providing training, setting the time to do the exercises, watching or paying attention to each student to see their ability to do the exercises.
