Abstract

Behavioral engagement is one of many issues which has an important role in achieving holistic education. Additionally, behavioral engagement can be an early indicator of students’ later academic success. However, the researcher found out that most of the students were not behaviorally engaged during the class discussions. Therefore, this research aimed to see if the implementation of Talking Kit could enhance K3 students’ behavioral engagement and found out the steps of Talking Kit implementation to enhance K3 students’ behavioral engagement. Classroom Action Research developed by Pelton was used in this research. The research was conducted on 16th -30th of October 2018 with 23 K3 students of a Christian School in West Jakarta. The instruments used to collect the data were reflection journal, feedback sheets, video script, talking chart, and observational checklist. As a result, it could be concluded that the Talking Kit enhance students’ behavioral engagement. It was shown by the checklist. Based on the checklist which has been processed by the researcher, it resulted that there was 55% progressive enhancement of the students who performed positive conduct and 100% of the students showed tangible behavior of contribution. This progress was compared since the issue identified until the second implementation. In addition, the steps of the Talking Kit also had an important role in enhancing students’ behavioral engagement. Those steps were divided into three big steps which are teacher prepares students to be ready to learn by recall the classroom procedures, students use their talking kit according to the talking kit rules and students get the recognition after they use all their chips. It also supported by the written feedback given by the mentor teacher./ Keterlibatan perilaku siswa adalah satu dari banyak isu yang memiliki peran penting dalam mencapai pendidikan yang holistis. Selain itu, keterlibatan perilaku dapat menjadi indikator awal dari kesuksesan akademik siswa di kemudian hari. Namun, peneliti menemukan bahwa sebagian besar siswa tidak menujukkan keterlibatan perilaku selama diskusi kelas berlangsung. Karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat jika penerapan Talking Kit dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan perilaku siswa K3, juga untuk mencari tahu langkah-langkah dari penerapan Talking Kit yang dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa K3 tersebut. Adapun penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas yang dikembangkan oleh Pelton. Penelitian dilaksanakan sekitar tanggal 16-30 Oktober 2018 dengan 23 siswa K3 dari sebuah Taman Kanak-kanak Kristen di Jakarta Barat. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan antara lain jurnal refleksi, lembar umpan balik, skrip video, Talking Chart, dan checklist observasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan Talking Kit dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan perilaku siswa. Hal ini terlihat berdasarkan hasil checklist yang telah diolah oleh peneliti menujukkan bahwa ada persentase peningkatan jumlah siswa yang menunjukkan perilaku positif sekitar 55% dari jumlah keseluruhan. Serta 100% siswa atau seluruh siswa menunjukkan kontribusi nyata dalam diskusi kelas melalui pertanyaan, jawaban, serta tanggapan dalam diskusi kelas. Peningkatan ini merupakan hasil perbandingan sejak masalah diidentifikasi hingga penerapan kedua. Selain itu, langkah-langkah dari penerapan Talking Kit juga memegang peranan penting dalam meningkatkan keterlibatan perilaku siswa. Langkah-langkah tersebut dibagi menjadi tiga langkah besar yakni guru mempersiapkan siswa untuk siap belajar dengan mengulang prosedur kelas, siswa menggunakan Talking Kit sesuai peraturannya dan siswa mendapatkan penghargaan setelah mereka menggunakan seluruh chips nya. Keberhasilan ini juga didukung oleh bukti tertulis dalam umpan balik mentor.
