Abstract

During the learning process, students are expected to be engaged behaviorally in order to be responsible and responsive disciple of Christ. Based on observation in Grade VIII SMP A, it was found that most of the students tend to chat during the learning process and not being productive with the task. Thus, the researcher applied Students Team-achievement Division (STAD) method to provide a student-centered learning and analyze its impact to increase students’ behavioral engagement. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR). Subjects of this research were grade VIII students that consisted of 22 students. The research was held in three cycles using spiral model by Kemmiss and McTaggart. The research instruments used were checklist of students’ behavioral engagement, STAD method observation form, students’ questionnaire, journal reflection and mentor teacher interview. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The result of data analysis concludes that the implementation of STAD method could increase grade VIII students’ behavioral engagement in learning mathematics. / Selama proses pembelajaran, siswa diharapkan untuk terlibat secara perilaku dengan tujuan menjadi murid Kristus yang responsif dan bertanggung jawab. Berdasarkan observasi yang dilaksanakan di kelas VIII SMP A, ditemukan bahwa beberapa siswa cenderung untuk mengobrol selama pembelajaran berlangsung dan menjadi tidak produktif dalam menyelesaikan tugas. Dengan demikian, peneliti menerapkan metode Students Team-Achievement Division (STAD) untuk menyediakan pembelajaran yang berpusat kepada siswa dan menganalisis pengaruhnya terhadap peningkatan keterlibatan perilaku siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Subyek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII yang terdiri dari 22 siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus dengan menggunakan model spiral oleh Kemmis and McTaggart. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah lembar observasi keterlibatan perilaku siswa, lembar observasi penerapan metode STAD, kuesioner siswa, refleksi jurnal dan wawancara guru pamong. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskripsi. Dari hasil analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode STAD meningkatkan keterlibatan perilaku siswa kelas VIII dalam pembelajaran matematika.
