Abstract

In this millennial era, it is evident that there are still many Buddhist millennials who still don't really understand or even really care about their own religion. This problem occurs because these millennials are of the opinion that Buddhist monasteries and religious spaces do not currently follow a contemporary lifestyle in this modern era. This issue is important because from a social point of view, there is a gap between millennials in a religious context and Buddhist places of worship so that this design can bridge this gap with interior design solutions. Research for data collection from this project also involves religious leaders so that the data can be processed into optimal design references in solving problems of social involvement, space, and project identity. This Buddhist religious interior design is focused on millennial users who according to research say that they rarely do worship because Buddhist places of worship do not follow their current lifestyle. The research technique used is a case study with a symbolic aesthetic approach. In addition, this design also embraces sustainable design aspects so that it can be related to the concept of Buddhism itself. Equipped with theoretical research to the fullest to support design concepts that include healing space, nature, sustainability, and symbolic aesthetics, while simultaneously addressing design issues related to social, space, and identity. It can be concluded that this project aims to move millennials' intentions in worship by fulfilling the needs and knowledge about the whole concept of Buddhism through facilities to symbols representing Buddhist identity in the designs designed. Motivate millennials through communication that is easy to understand but follows a modern or contemporary style without distorting the original goals of Buddhism in terms of activity and identity.
