Abstract

Tony Sofian, selaku principal dari biro TSDS IA percaya bahwa desain yang baik tidak hanya berdasarkan keindahan visual atau estetik saja namun dapat dirasakan secara atmosfer saat seorang individu masuk ke dalam ruangan tersebut. Peter Zumthor dalam bukunya yang berjudul Atmospheres berkata bahwa kami merasakan atmosfer melalui kepekaan emosional kami - suatu bentuk persepsi yang bekerja sangat cepat yang mampu membuat seorang individu yang berada dalam ruangan tersebut mengapresiasi secara langsung atau menolak secara sekejap. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mencari tahu bagaimana TSDS IA menerapkan atmosfer ruang sebagai pendekatan desain dalam proses desain. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif yang diperoleh penulis melalui catatan lapangan dengan metode etnografi yang dilakukan selama penulis menjalankan program magang dalam kurun waktu 10 bulan. Analisis data secara kualitatif akan menggunakan metode studi kasus, studi kasus yang digunakan adalah proyek rumah tinggal Orchard Road dan Batam. Strategi analisis menyilangkan teori nine chapters of atmosphere milik Peter Zumthor dengan proses desain yang digunakan TSDS IA. Dalam menerapkan atmosfer ruang sebagai pendekatan desain dalam proses desain, TSDS IA menggunakan nine chapters of atmosphere yang dirasakan melalui panca indra manusia, dan dinilai dengan menggunakan intuisi desainer. Atmosfer menurut Zumthor tidak bersifat mutlak dalam menjalani proses desain karena adanya sikap kompromi tim desainer dalam menghadapi limitasi dan keterbatasan dalam proyek. Intuisi yang baik untuk menghasilkan atmosfer yang optimal baru dapat diterapkan jika didasari dengan pengalaman dan pengetahuan terlebih dahulu. / Tony Sofian, as the principal of TSDS IA believes that good design is not only based on visual beauty or aesthetics but can be felt in the atmosphere when an individual enters the room. Peter Zumthor in his book titled Atmospheres says that we perceive atmosphere through our emotional sensitivity - a form of perception that works very quickly which is able to make someone in the room appreciate it directly or reject it instantly. The aim of this research is to find out how TSDS IA applies spatial atmosphere as a design approach in the design process. The method used is a qualitative research method obtained by the author through field notes with the ethnographic method which was carried out during the author's internship program within a period of 10 months. Qualitative data analysis will use the case study method, the case studies used are Orchard Road and Batam residential projects. Strategy analysis crosses Peter Zumthor's nine-chapter atmosphere theory with the design process employed by TSDS IA. In applying the atmosphere of space as a design approach in the design process, TSDS IA uses nine chapters of atmosphere that is felt through the five human senses, and is assessed using the designer's interests. Atmosphere, according to Zumthor, is not absolute in the design process because of the compromise attitude of the designer team in facing the limitations and limitations of the project. Good intuition to produce an optimal atmosphere can only be applied if it is supported by experience and knowledge first.
