Abstract

This research, with the theme of relational dialectics in communication openness between single parents (mothers) and children, aims to identify and explain the process of communication carried out by single parents in building relationships and communication openness with children. In this study using Relational Dialectic Theory (RDT) and Symbolic Interaction Theory (SIT), as well as the concept of family relationships and communication. With these two theories it is expected to be able to explain the dialogic practices carried out in the process of daily communication. This research was conducted using the constructivism paradigm to identify and explain dialogic practices in communication between single parents and children, both from the process, messages and forms of communication. The research method is phenomenology to reveal the similarity of meaning that is obtained from phenomena in society that become informants' life experiences. Data collection was carried out through interviews and documentation to complete the primary data. The informant is a working single mother and is located in Jakarta. The results and discussion of the research show that there are groupings of data and themes as the meaning of an event in the family communication process that can be interpreted. Each family carries out interactions that allow for differences and cause conflict. However, in the process of continuous interaction, openness and change, conflicts can be resolved. / Penelitian ini dengan tema Dialektika relasional dalam keterbukaan komunikasi antara orang tua tunggal (ibu) dan anak, bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menjelaskan proses komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh orang tua tunggal dalam membangun hubungan serta keterbukaan komunikasi dengan anak. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Relational Dialectic Theory (RDT) dan Simbolic Interaction Theory (SIT), serta konsep mengenai hubungan dan komunikasi keluarga. Dengan kedua teori tersebut diharapkan dapat menjelaskan tentang praktik dialogis yang dilakukan dalam proses komunikasi sehari-hari. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme untuk mengetahui dan menjelaskan praktik dialogis dalam komunikasi antara orang tua tunggal dan anak, baik dari proses, pesan dan bentuk komunikasi. Metode penelitian yaitu fenomenologi untuk mengungkap kesamaan makna yang di peroleh dari fenomena dalam masyarakat yang menjadi pengalaman hidup informan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara dan dokumentasi untuk melengkapi data primer. Informan merupakan seorang ibu tunggal bekerja dan berlokasi di Jakarta. Hasil dan pembahasan penelitian menunjukan adanya pengelompokan data dan tema sebagai makna dari suatu peristiwa dalam proses komunikasi keluarga yang dapat diintepretasikan. Setiap keluarga melakukan interaksi yang memungkinkan terjadinya perbedaan dan menimbulkan konflik. Namun dalam prosesnya adanya interaksi yang berkelanjutan, keterbukaan dan perubahan, maka konflik dapat diselesaikan.
