Abstract

ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Tidur dapat didefinisikan sebagai keadaan tidak adanya kesadaran. Dalam kata lain, tidur adalah keadaan fisiologis saat kemampuan sensorik dan aktivitas otot volunter terhambat, dengan sedikit atau tidak adanya interaksi dengan lingkungan yang tetap berada dalam tahap ketidaksadaran sementara. Kualitas tidur objektif mengacu pada seberapa sulitnya seseorang tertidur dan tetap dalam kondisi tidur, dan berapa kali mereka akan terbangun dalam satu malam. Sementara kualitas tidur subyektif mengacu pada perasaan cukup istirahat setelah bangun dari tidur. Elektronik konsumen mencakup berbagai perangkat elektronik yang menyediakan satu atau lebih fungsi yang dirancang untuk dibeli dan digunakan oleh konsumen untuk penggunaan sehari-hari dan nonkomersial/ profesional. Berikut barang yang termasuk elektronik konsumen: televisi, pemutar DVD, komputer, laptop, tablet, dan ponsel. Pengaruh penggunaan elektronik konsumen pada tidur telah dikaitkan dengan pancaram blue light yang dikatakan mempengaruhi ritme sirkadian dan mempengaruhi kadar pelepasan melatonin, menunda timbulnya keadaan tidur REM. Penggunaan perangkat elektronik pada siang hari dan waktu tidur keduanya terkait dengan ukuran tidur, dengan peningkatan risiko durasi tidur pendek, latensi onset tidur yang lama, dan peningkatan kekurangan tidur. Seperti yang terlihat pada hubungan antara penggunaan PC dan jumlah waktu tidur yang berkurang (>5 jam), hasilnya menunjukkan hubungan negatif antara penggunaan teknologi dan tidur, menunjukkan bahwa rekomendasi penggunaan media yang sehat dapat mencakup pembatasan pada perangkat elektronik. Tujuan: Untuk mengevaluasi hubungan antara penggunaan elektronik sebelum tidur dengan kualitas tidur untuk mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Hipotesis: Ada hubungan langsung antara penggunaan elektronik sebelum tidur dengan kualitas tidur baik pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan rancangan penelitian observasional case-control dengan populasi penelitian mahasiswa pra-klinik fakultas kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan akan dipilih secara convenience sampling. Data akan dikumpulkan menggunakan skrining dan kuesioner demografi: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis kategorik komparatif tidak berpasangan. RESULTS: Lebih dari 94% dari total responden menggunakan alat elektronik sebelum tidur dan hanya 6% diantaranya tidak menggunakan alat elektronik apapun sebelum tidur. Dari responden yang menggunakan alat elektronik sebelum tidur, sebanyak 181 (86.6%) responden menggunakan handphone sebagai jenis alat elektronik mereka. Dari 197 responden yang menggunakan elektronik sebelum tidur, 110 ditemukan memiliki kualitas tidur yang buruk sementara 87 responden memiliki kualitas tidur yang baik. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan tidak signifikan secara statisti dengan nilai p 0,693 dan rasio odds 1,264. CONCLUSION: Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa handphone adalah alat elektronik yang paling banyak digunakan sebelum tidur oleh mahasiswa pra-klinik fakultas kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Ditemukan bahwa 55% mahasiswa mempunyai kualitas tidur yang buruk. Tidak terdapat hubungan antara penggunaan alat elektronik sebelum tidur dengan kualitas tidur. / ABSTRACT Background: Sleep is a physiological state of altered consciousness, with inhibited sensory capacities and voluntary muscle activity, and little or no interaction with the environment during which a person remains in a stage of reversible unconsciousness. Objective sleep quality refers to how difficult it is for a person to fall asleep and remain in a sleeping state, and how many times they wake up during a single night. Subjective sleep quality in turn refers to a sense of being rested and regenerated after awaking from sleep. Consumer electronics includes a broad set of electronic devices that provide one or more functionalities designed to be purchased and used by consumers for daily and non-commercial/professional purposes. Consumer electronics include items, such as: televisions, DVD players, computers, laptops, tablets, and cellphones. The affect consumer electronics usage on sleep has been attributed to the emission of blue light which is said to influence the circadian rhythm and suppress the release of melatonin, delaying the onset of REM state sleep. Daytime and bedtime use of electronic devices were both related to sleep measures, with an increased risk of short sleep duration, long sleep onset latency and increased sleep deficiency. As seen with the relationship between PC use and ruduced amount of time slept (>5 hours), the results demonstrate a negative relation between use of technology and sleep, suggesting that recommendations on healthy media use could include restrictions on electronic devices. Aim: To evaluate the association between the use of electronics before sleep with the quality of sleep of young adults and adults. Hypothesis: There is a direct association between the use of electronics before sleep with the quality of sleep in students of medicine in Universitas Pelita Harapan. Method: This research is a cross sectional case-control observational study design whose study population is that of students of Universitas Pelita Harapan that study medicine that will be chosen by convenience sampling. Data will be collected using screening and the demographic questionnaire: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Analysis of data is done using unpaired comparative categoric analysis. RESULTS: More than 94% of the total respondents used electronic devices before sleep whilst only 6% did not use an electronic device before sleeo. Of the respondents did use an electronic device before sleep, as many as 181 (86.6%) claimed handphones as their primary electronic device used before sleep. Of the 197 respondents that used an electronic before sleeo, 110 of them scored poorly for sleep quality using PSQI while 87 respondents had adequate sleep quality. The results of the statistical analysis were found to be not statistically significant with a p-value of 0.693 and an odds ratio of 1.264. CONCLUSION: The result of this study shows that handphones were the most used electronic device before sleep amongst pre-med students in Universitas Pelita Harapan. It was also found that 55% of the students scored poorly for sleep quality using the PSQI. Due to the p-value being 0.695, there was no statistical evidence for the relationship between electronic device use before sleep with sleep quality.
