Abstract

Perguruan tinggi saat ini menawarkan adanya kuliah jarak jauh, salah satunya adalah Universitas Pelita Harapan yang memiliki prodi Pendidikan Jarak Jauh Ilmu Komunikasi. Pada proses perkuliahan khususnya kuliah jarak jauh, motivasi menjadi hal yang penting untuk dimiliki oleh mahasiswa karena sebagai seorang mahasiswa dituntut untuk mandiri dalam belajar. Namun pada pelaksanaannya mahasiswa menjumpai adanya masalah-masalah seputar perkuliahan ataupun karena kesibukan sebagai mahasiswa yang berkuliah sambil bekerja yang dapat menurunkan motivasi mahasiswa. Maka dari itu Universitas Pelita Harapan memiliki dosen penasihat akademik. Melalui berkomunikasi secara interpersonal dengan dosen PA ini mahasiswa diharapkan dapat membantu membangun motivasi belajar mahasiswa. Peneliti pada kesempatan kali ini ingin melakukan penelitian tentang peran komunikasi interpersonal antara dosen penasihat akademik dan mahasiswa untuk membangun motivasi belajar di prodi Pendidikan Jarak Jauh Ilmu Komunikasi UPH. Peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Teori komunikasi yang digunakan adalah teori penetrasi sosial. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa melalui komunikasi interpersonal mahasiswa merasa dapat semangat belajar kembali, menjadi tidak malas dan dapat mengatur waktu belajar. Dosen PA pun membangun motivasi belajar mahasiswa dengan membantu membuat rencana perkuliahan dan memperhatikan progress perkuliahan mahasiswa yang bermasalah. / Universities currently offer distance learning, one of them is Pelita Harapan University which has a Distance Learning Study Program in Communication Sciences. In the lecture process, especially in distance learning, motivation can be an important thing for students to have. As a student, you are required to be independent in learning. However, in practice, students encounter problems related to lectures or because they are busy studying while working which can reduce student motivation. Therefore, Pelita Harapan University has academic advisor lecturer. By communicating interpersonally with PA lecturers, students are expected to be able to help build student learning motivation. Researchers on this occasion wanted to conduct research on the role of interpersonal communication between academic supervisors and students in increasing lecture motivation in the UPH Distance Learning Communication Sciences Program. Researchers used qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. The communication theory used is the theory of social penetration. Based on the results of the study, it was found that through interpersonal communication students felt they could be enthusiastic about learning again, became not lazy and could manage study time. PA lecturers also build student learning motivation by helping to plan lectures and pay attention to the progress of lectures for students with problems.
