Abstract

FOMO is the term for Fear of Missing Out, a phenomenon where individuals fear missing a moment. Individuals, especially media personae, feel anxious and emotional when others leave them behind. This phenomenon is depicted in a Celebgram, Rachel Vennya, who received FOMO criticism on her IG feed showing her photo of attending the BLACKPINK concert in Jakarta. This study uses a qualitative method with the case study. Data is analyzed using Roland Barthes’ semiotics analysis, aiming to find the portrayal of the FOMO phenomenon in Rachel Vennya’s IG feed. Further discussion about the findings is associated with the hedonistic myth of Georg Simmel, The Self-representation Theory of Stuart Hall, and the Struggle for Individual recognition theory of Alex Honneth. / FOMO adalah istilah untuk Fear of Missing Out, sebuah fenomena dimana individu takut kehilangan momen.
