Abstract

Peranan seorang perempuan dalam masyarakat Indonesia yang kental akan pengaruh budaya ketimuran menyebabkan terbentuknya pandangan bahwa peranan dan tujuan utama bagi seorang perempuan adalah dengan menjadi ibu dan memiliki keturunan. Namun, dewasa ini perjuangan akan hak-hak perempuan mulai disuarakan seiring berkembangnya gerakan feminisme di Indonesia termasuk dengan hak hidup tanpa keturunan (childfree). Munculnya fenomena tersebut membuat perempuan childfree dianggap egois dan putus asa yang kemudian berdampak pada cara pandang mereka terhadap keturunan. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana perempuan childfree memaknai konsep keturunan berdasarkan interaksi dengan lingkungan sekitar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan didukung metode kualitatif deskriptif. Teori yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah teori interaksionime simbolik milik Herbert Blumer. Pengambilan data primer dilakukan dengan melakukan wawancara terhadap tiga informan perempuan childfree baik sudah menikah ataupun belum. Selain itu, data sekunder juga diperoleh dengan melakukan studi kepustakaan dan pengambilan informasi melalui sumber dan data online lainnya. Hasil temuan penelitian menunjukan bahwa keturunan bagi perempuan childfree dimaknai sebagai pilihan hidup yang tidak menjadi keharusan dalam keluarga, pergeseran makna lainnya juga ditemukan yang menganggap keturunan tidak harus bersifat fisik dan memiliki jiwa. Perbedaan makna tersebut didasari karena interaksi sosial yang juga mempengaruhi konsep dalam diri mereka yang membuat perempuan childfree tidak memaknai keturunan sebagaimana yang dianggap oleh masyarakat Indonesia secara umum. / The role of a woman in Indonesian society, which is strongly influenced by eastern culture, has led to the formation of the view that the main role and goal for a woman is to become a mother and have children. However, nowadays the struggle for women's rights has begun to be voiced along with the development of the feminist movement in Indonesia, including the right to live without offspring (childfree). The emergence of this phenomenon makes childfree women considered selfish and hopeless which then impacts their perspective on their offspring. This study aims to find out how childfree women interpret the concept of heredity based on interactions with their surroundings. This study used a qualitative approach supported by descriptive qualitative methods. The theory used in this study is Herbert Blumer's theory of symbolic interactionism. Primary data collection was carried out by conducting interviews with three childfree female informants, whether married or not. In addition, secondary data was also obtained by conducting literature studies and gathering information through other online sources and data. The research findings show that offspring for childfree women is interpreted as a life choice that does not become a necessity in the family, another shift in meaning is also found that considers offspring does not have to be physical and has a soul. The difference in meaning is based on social interaction which also influences their self-concept which makes childfree women not interpret descent as is generally accepted by Indonesian society.
