Abstract

Penelitian ini didasarkan pada hasil observasi peneliti di kelas VII SMP Kristen XYZ yang menemukan bahwa kebanyakan siswa memiliki penguasaan konsep matematika yang rendah pada materi aritmatika sosial. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah karena pengajaran yang terfokus dengan penerapan metode ceramah. Maka, peneliti memutuskan untuk menerapkan metode STAD untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Melalui penggunanaan metode STAD ini, peneliti berharap tujuan peneliti tercapai, yaitu untuk meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan di SMP Kristen XYZ, sebuah sekolah Kristen swasta di Kota Rantepao. PTK dengan tiga siklus ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 3 Agustus – 5 November 2015 dengan melibatkan 34 orang siswa. Hasil data dianalisa dengan menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah lembar observasi penerapan metode STAD, lembar kuis individu, lembar panduan wawancara mentor dan siswa, dan jurnal refleksi. Hasil dari seluruh instrumen yang telah dianalisis memberikan kesimpulan bahwa penerapan metode STAD dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep aritmatika bagi siswa kelas VII SMP Kristen XYZ dan menerapkan metode STAD yang terdiri dari beberapa tahapan dalam persiapan dan pelaksanaan dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep aritmatika sosial bagi siswa kelas VII SMP Kristen XYZ./ This research is based on the observation held by the researcher in class VII SMP XYZ Christian which found that most of the students had a low mastery on aritmatika concept. One of the reasons was because the teaching was focused to the application of lecturing method. Hence, the researcher decided to apply the methods of STAD in overcoming this problem. It was expected that through the application of this method, the goal of can be achieved, which is to increase the mastery of the concept through the application of methods of STAD and to know the method of the application of STAD method in increasing students’ conceptual mastery. This research is a class action research (CAR) which was done in SMP XYZ, a private Christian school in the city of Rantepao. CAR with three cycles was held on 3 August – 5 November 2015, by involving 34 students. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis techniques. The instruments used to collect data is the observation sheet of STAD implementation, individual quiz sheets, mentors interview sheets, and journal reflection. The result of all the instruments that have been analyzed gives the conclusion that the implementation of the method of STAD can increase mastery of aritmatica for grade VII SMP XYZ and the implementation methods of STAD which consisted of several stages in the preparation and implementation may increase the conceptual mastery of aritmatica for the grade VII students SMP XYZ.
